Reopening Your Business With A Cleaning & Disinfecting Plan in Place

As more businesses begin to resume operations during partial or total shutdowns due to COVID-19, an important part of reopening will need to include careful planning and management of health and safety risks and issues. Reviewing available information and guidance and creating a reasonable plan that actually can and will be followed is crucial.

At the same time, because best practices and guidance will continue to evolve, any plan made will require flexibility until a new “normal” emerges or risks and concerns subside. Employees should continue to practice social distancing, wear facial coverings, and follow proper prevention hygiene, such as washing hands frequently and using alcohol-based (at least 60% alcohol) hand sanitizer when soap and water are not available.

Businesses may also want to consider hiring a professional janitorial service that knows what they are doing to routinely clean and sanitize the workplace. And if a business already has a professional cleaning service that comes in once or twice a week, they may want to amp up their cleaning visits to at least 3 times per week during this critical time.

At Cleanstart, we pride ourselves in our ability to clean and disinfect a variety of work environments quickly and effectively. Whether it’s a business office, health club, warehouse, medical facility, church, multi-tenant high-rise, fitness center, or car dealership, you can count on us to do the job right. We have been in the commercial cleaning business for over 27 years and on the front lines fighting the spread of COVID-19 since the outbreak. (See Cleanstart featured in TIME Magazine Video).

Cleaning and Disinfection

According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Coronaviruses on surfaces and objects die naturally within hours to days. Normal routine cleaning with soap and water removes germs and dirt from surfaces and lowers the risk of spreading COVID-19. EPA-approved disinfectants kill germs on surfaces, further lowering the risk of spreading infection.

The CDC recommends daily disinfecting of high-touch surfaces and objects such as desks, countertops, doorknobs, computer keyboards, faucet handles, and telephones, and immediate sanitizing of visibly soiled objects. The virus that causes COVID-19 can be killed if you use the right products.

The EPA has compiled a list of approved disinfectant products that include ready-to-use sprays, concentrates, and wipes. Each product has been shown to be effective against viruses that are harder to kill than viruses like the one that causes COVID-19. When EPA-approved disinfectants are not available, alternative disinfectants can be used (for example, 1/3 cup of bleach added to 1 gallon of water, or 70% alcohol solutions), the CDC states.

Electrostatic Spraying

We make sure that our professional cleaners are thoroughly trained in the latest technologies, cleaning & disinfectant products, and procedures and follow proper guidelines established by the CDC, EPA, and OSHA. Our deep cleaning and advanced disinfecting services include a combination of hand wiping and the use of an electrostatic sprayer to apply a safe, EPA-certified disinfectant solution proven for use against COVID-19 and other viruses.

There are many benefits to electrostatic spraying disinfection. Its time-saving, effective, and touchless application means zero cross-contamination. Electrostatic spraying is not a replacement for your regularly scheduled service, but it’s a great addition that guarantees that all surfaces, even small areas or upholstered surfaces that can’t get wiped down, are disinfected.

Recommended Infection Prevention Measures In The Workplace

The following are basic infection prevention measures recommended by the CDC, EPA, and OSHA to help ensure the health and safety of employees and visitors in the workplace:

  • Promote frequent and thorough hand washing. If soap and running water are not immediately available, provide alcohol-based hand rubs containing at least 60% alcohol
  • Provide employees, customers, and the public with tissues and trash receptacles
  • Hang posters that encourage staying home when sick, cough and sneeze etiquette, and hand hygiene at the entrance to your workplace and in other work areas where they are likely to be seen
  • Purchase and distribute disinfectant and personal hand sanitizer to facilitate cleanliness. Ensure that adequate supplies are maintained
  • Place hand sanitizer in multiple locations or in conference rooms to encourage hand hygiene
  • Add additional wash stations to the workplace to make washing hands not only easy but visible to others.
  • Keep a supply of Clorox wipes in the kitchen to wipe down counters (leave on at least 4 minutes or until dry)
  • Eliminate high touchpoints: Keep doors open and install hands-free paper dispensers, sink faucets, and garbage cans
  • Discourage workers from using other workers’ phones, desks, offices, or other work tools and equipment, when possible
  • Provide employees with latex gloves and masks
  • Maintain regular housekeeping practices, including routine cleaning and disinfecting of surfaces, equipment, and other elements of the work environment
  • Use EPA-approved disinfectants
  • Have Ventilation systems checked out
