Auburn is a suburb in the Seattle Metro Area and is currently ranked the 14th largest city in the state of Washington. Located in King County with a small portion also in Pierce County, the population of Auburn is approximately 70,180. Auburn is bordered by the cities of Federal Way, Pacific, and Algona to the west, Sumner to the south, Kent to the north, and unincorporated King County to the east with The Muckleshoot Indian Reservation in or near the southern city limits.
Auburn has a total area of 29.89 square miles, of which, 29.62 square miles is land and 0.27 square miles is water. Located 28 miles south of Seattle, Auburn was home to some of the earliest settlers in King County. Auburn is located near the confluence of the Green and White rivers, which contain runoff water from the Cascade Mountain range and flows through Auburn. The city has an extensive system of parks, open space, and urban trails, consisting of about 28 developed parks, 23 miles of trails, and nearly 247 acres of open space for recreation.
