Commercial Cleaning Services for Coronavirus Prevention
Cleaning & disinfecting is your first line of defense against coronavirus. Washington state health officials give coronavirus guidance: ‘Don’t panic, get prepared.’ Cleaning and disinfecting at home and in the workplace plays a critical role in protecting your health by preventing transmission of the coronavirus.
Coronavirus (CoV) refers to a family of viruses that cause illness ranging from the common cold to more severe diseases. SARS-CoV-2, also known as 2019-nCoV, is a new coronavirus responsible for COVID-19, which was first identified in Wuhan, China in December 2019.
The last couple of months have seen the COVID-19 crisis grow into a worldwide emergency. Reported illnesses have ranged from mild symptoms to severe illness and death. COVID-19 is thought to spread mainly between people who are in close contact with one another (6 feet) through respiratory droplets produced when an infected person coughs or sneezes.
The virus attacks the mucus membrane in the lungs. Some spread might be possible before people show any symptoms such as a fever, cough, and shortness of breath, which may appear 2-14 days after exposure to COVID-19.
Routine Cleaning & Disinfecting Surfaces
It may also be possible that a person can get COVID-19 by touching a surface or object that has the virus on it and then touching their own mouth, nose, or possibly their eyes. Cleaning of visibly dirty surfaces followed by disinfection is a best practice measure for the prevention of COVID-19 and other viral respiratory illnesses in households, offices, commercial facilities, and community settings.
Clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces such as doorknobs, light switches, handles, desks, tables, toilets, faucets, sinks, cell phones, computer keyboards, etc.) with cleaners and EPA-registered disinfectants that are appropriate for the surface. Cleaning does not kill germs, but by removing them, it lowers their numbers and the risk of spreading infection.
Routinely clean low-risk surfaces, such as floors, windows, etc., where the likelihood of pathogen transfer from the surface is low. Disinfection is appropriate for frequently touched surfaces and surfaces likely to harbor pathogens. Disinfection can further lower the risk of spreading infection. At Cleanstart, we use hospital-grade disinfectant, which has to dwell on the surface for up to 10 minutes in order for the chemicals to actually kill the virus and the bacteria.

Coronavirus Prevention
You can help prevent yourself from getting and spreading the coronavirus as well as other respiratory illnesses by following these important steps:
- Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after using the bathroom, before eating, and after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing.
- Use 70% alcohol-based hand sanitizer if soap and water are not available.
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.
- Cover your mouth when coughing and sneezing with a tissue or shirt sleeve, not your hands.
- Clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces, such as office phones, cell phones, computer keyboards, door handles, faucets, etc., especially if someone is sick.
- Stay at home when you are sick.
- Avoid close contact with someone that is sick
- Follow CDC’s recommendations for using a surgical mask.
Surgical Masks Don’t Protect You From Getting COVID-19
According to the CDC, surgical masks don’t really work to protect you from getting COVID-19. You should only wear a mask if a healthcare professional recommends it. A face mask should be used by people who have COVID-19 and are showing symptoms. This is to protect others from the risk of getting infected.
The use of surgical masks is also crucial for health workers and people who are taking care of someone in close settings (at home or in a health care facility). Doctors and healthcare providers wear masks because they don’t want to transmit the virus to their patients rather than to protect themselves from the virus.
Stop Touching Your Face
Every time people touch their mouth or nose, they transfer bacteria and viruses between their face and their hand. This transfer of germs from one body part to another is a primary way that germs wind up spreading from contaminated surfaces to people’s faces, and from sick people to often-touched surfaces.
“There are many opportunities in between hand-washing for people to re-contaminate their hands,” said study researcher Dr. Wladimir Alonso, a global health researcher at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Md.
Coronavirus in Washington State
Dr. Jeff Duchin, health officer for Seattle and King County recently stated that “most cases of coronavirus in Washington state are mild and may not even require any health care. However, residents should still practice more hand washing, less face touching and less social interaction whenever possible.
Working remotely, staying home if you feel sick, and having a stockpile of medication and food will help contain the illness. Those who are over the age of 60-65, along with anyone who has chronic lung issues or a weakened immune system, must be hyper-vigilant, as they are the ones who are most at risk.” Duchin advised that pregnant women exercise caution as well.
